Hey! That's me! I'm Alyssa, the travel writer and brain behind The Wanderlist. I'm a human rights activist and student by day, karaoke queen by night, nomad by weekend, and travel blogger somewhere in between.
I've been living in London, England since 2014, but have previously been a resident of Madrid, Missouri, Chicago, Alaska, and California. I've got itchy feet and find it hard to stay in the same place for too long. Hence the travel blog.
My stint in London was supposed to last four months, but a lethal combination of adorable British man, love for multiculturalism, and access to travel lead me to stay. As they said in Brokeback Mountain (I think?) "I just can't quit you." And that's exactly how I feel about London.
If I'm not blogging, you can find me writing about human rights, talking about politics (that's what I do in my day job), compiling jamming playlists, brunching, snapping photos, listening to podcasts, or reading about dope women doing kickass things.
The story of how I came to travel is quite personal and long, but I'll leave it at this: it changed my life. But I want to get one thing straight: I'm not here to tell you what to do. Because if it's one thing I hate, it's someone giving me unsolicited advice. (Seriously, makes me cringe). Other travel bloggers may beg to differ, but in my opinion, there is no right or wrong way to travel. Take what I say with a grain of salt. Read for guidance, but make your own adventures. Life is much better that way.
I'm of course on social media (who isn't!?) so you can holla at me there. I love to talk so engage me, chat me, tweet me, and I'll hopefully respond! Find me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.
I have a sick obsession with shoes that gets in the way of my traveling budget.
15 years of my life were spent as a figure skater.
I'm a proud feminist.
I have a massive sweet tooth, but not necessarily with chocolate and dessert. I love fruit.
Laundry is the bane of my existence.
I have seen every episode of Friends at least 10 times, and can quote every line.
My favorite band is Bon Iver and I've seen them perform live 5 times (twice in two different countries in 24 hours).
If you want to win my heart, feed me seafood risotto and brush my hair.
I can talk politics for hours (but won't because who likes talking about politics?)
When I die, bury me with a cheeseboard.
